Trung tâm Dự báo Khí tượng Thủy văn quốc gia cho biết, hôm nay bão tiếp tục theo hướng tây, tốc độ 15 km/h và có khả năng mạnh thêm. Đến 4h ngày 11/9, tâm bão trên quần đảo Hoàng Sa, sức gió mạnh nhất 115 km/h, cấp 11.
Ngày tiếp theo, bão theo hướng tây tây bắc, tốc độ giảm còn 5 km/h, hướng đến vùng biển từ Quảng Trị đến Quảng Ngãi.

Đài khí tượng Nhật Bản cho biết, bão đang mạnh 92 km/h, đến ngày 11/9 mạnh lên 110 km/h, sau đó hướng đến vùng biển miền Trung của Việt Nam. Đài TSR của Đại học London nhận định bão mạnh nhất vào ngày 11-12/9, sức gió tối đa 119 km/h, sau đó đi vào vùng biển Quảng Trị, cường độ giảm.
Ông Hoàng Phúc Lâm, Phó giám đốc Trung tâm Dự báo Khí tượng Thủy văn quốc gia, cho biết hôm nay và ngày mai điều kiện khí quyển, đại dương, tương tác với bão Chan Thu bên ngoài đều thuận lợi cho bão mạnh lên 1-2 cấp. "Tuy nhiên, do tương tác với bão Chan Thu nên sau khi đi qua quần đảo Hoàng Sa bão đi chậm lại, giảm 1-2 cấp", ông Lâm nói.
Vùng nguy hiểm trên biển Đông trong hai ngày tới (gió mạnh từ cấp 6, giật từ cấp 8 trở lên) từ vĩ tuyến 14,5 đến 18,5; kinh tuyến 107 đến 113,5. Toàn bộ tàu thuyền hoạt động trong vùng nguy hiểm đều có nguy cơ chịu tác động của gió mạnh, sóng lớn và lốc xoáy.
Khu vực bắc và giữa Biển Đông (bao gồm quần đảo Hoàng Sa) có mưa bão, gió xoáy mạnh cấp 7-8, vùng gần tâm bão đi qua mạnh từ cấp 9 tới 11, giật cấp 13, sóng biển cao 4-6 m, biển động dữ dội.
Côn Sơn là cơn bão thứ năm ở Biển Đông trong năm nay. Từ nay tới hết năm 2021, Biển Đông còn có khả năng xuất hiện 6-8 cơn bão, áp thấp nhiệt đới, trong đó 2-4 cơn ảnh hưởng trực tiếp đến đất liền Việt Nam.
